Designed by illustrious architects, Quebec’s challenging golf courses feature pristine fairways and exceptional views of forests, mountains and iconic rivers. Both novices and seasoned players find this province a superb choice for a golf trip.

Forested Fairways at Montebello

Kick off your tour at Fairmont Le Château Montebello, roughly halfway between Ottawa and Montreal. Set amid expansive, wooded grounds on the shore of Ottawa River, the world’s largest log cabin is a rustic-chic retreat where you’ll feel truly connected to nature. The first round of golf was played here in 1931, on a tightly winding par-70 course designed by acclaimed architect Stanley Thompson. Open between May and October, its rolling fairways lined with fragrant pine, spruce and balsam, and elevated tees provide unforgettable views of the Laurentian Mountains and river.

The club takes pride in its environmental initiatives. Registered with the Audubon Cooperative Sanctuary Program, it’s reducing the use of pesticides, conserving water and protecting wildlife habitats. If you need to rent equipment or fancy treating yourself to a new golf outfit, the clubhouse shop stocks a terrific range of top brands. Once you’ve completed all 18 holes, sip a cool drink from the Grab & Go service on the terrace of Bar Le Mulligan, then ease your muscles with a rejuvenating Montebello hot stone massage in the hotel’s spa.

The hotel’s Ultimate Golf Getaway Package starts at $480 CAD based on double occupancy and includes overnight accommodation and daily breakfast, plus unlimited golf per adult and use of a power cart.

Teeing Off at Tremblant

Heading just over an hour’s drive northeast, continue your sporting adventure at Fairmont Tremblant, a relaxing destination at the foot of the Laurentians with a choice of several outstanding golf courses nearby.

These include Golf Le Maître, co-designed by Fred Couples, which hugs the bank of the Devil’s River and has a swimming pool for a cool plunge at the end. On the opposite side of the river, La Bête, a 6,825-yard course laid out by renowned Montreal architect Graham Cooke, beckons with five sets of tees and immaculate, tree-lined fairways. Meanwhile, par-72 course Le Géant reopens in summer 2022 after a two-year closure. It offers a challenging, hilly experience with extraordinary vistas of the surrounding peaks and Lac Tremblant. And don’t miss out on a round at Le Diable: the name hints at the devilish red sand bunkers threatening to trap your ball. This course is also home to an excellent golf academy where certified pros are on hand to help you perfect your swing with the aid of a state-of-the-art video analysis system.

Back at the hotel, recharge in chic Axe Lounge Bar with tasty snacks and a refreshing cocktail created from local spirits by an expert mixologist. For your overnight stay, Fairmont Tremblant’s Flex Golf Offer starts at $449 CAD per night based on double occupancy. This includes a 15% accommodation discount and a $200 daily golf credit per room.

Riverside Rounds at Le Manoir Richelieu

Your final stop is northeast of Quebec City at Fairmont Le Manoir Richelieu, a storied hotel overlooking the mighty St. Lawrence River. Originally designed by English architect Herbert Strong and upgraded by esteemed designer Darrell Huxham, the golf course here is made entirely from creeping bentgrass. It was inaugurated in 1925 by U.S. President Willam H. Taft who loved spending summers in the region.

You may feel as if you’re launching your ball into the river itself as you drive it down the undulating fairways toward the water. The mountaintop course has won a multitude of awards for its ingenious layout: an incredible 27 holes spread across three courses that feature strategically placed bunkers and mounds, plus sweeping views throughout.

Finish off your round with more spectacular vistas and a delicious gourmet sandwich at the clubhouse, Le Point Cardinal. Off the greens, take a soothing dip in the hotel’s two outdoor pools, then dress up for an entertaining night at the casino where you might try your luck at blackjack or a game of roulette.

For great savings, the Ultimate Charlevoix Golf Package starts at $519 CAD per night based on double occupancy. This special offer includes overnight accommodation and breakfast for two, plus unlimited same-day golf and use of a cart.
